R-Retinoate (Retinyl Retinoate) is a patented molecule, a fusion of retinol and retinoic acid. Created after eight years of joint research and development by Medik8 scientists in collaboration with a leading Korean laboratory, the combined effects of retinol and retinoic acid are eight times more potent than retinol alone, with photosensitive properties that make it effective both day and night. The ultimate form of vitamin A, R-Retinoate has been shown to: be eight times more potent than retinol; be photostable, meaning it can be used day and night, even on sensitive skin; increase cell proliferation (renewal) for a smoother, more refined skin surface; boost collagen synthesis and prevent its degradation for firmer, younger-looking skin; decrease melanin production to combat hyperpigmentation and achieve a more even skin tone; and reduce sebum production to minimize the formation of dark spots. Stimulate glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) to normalize skin hydration levels. Thicken the epidermis for a plumber's skin appearance.

Sustained Release Technology (Polymer Encapsulation) – To prevent irritation and ensure controlled release of r-retinoate into the skin, the r-retinoate is encapsulated in a polymer shell. This helps stabilize the r-retinoate molecule and allows it to slowly penetrate the skin, nourishing and energizing it over a period of six hours. The encapsulation slowly breaks down when the skin is massaged, gently releasing the vitamin A.
