A perfect tan for every skin type
Teresa de Miguel Miró
A perfect tan for every skin type... It exists! And it's not about spending more or fewer hours in the sun. Your skin phototype, age, skin type, and lifestyle are the only factors that matter. Don't let yourself be swayed by sensory preferences, and don't limit yourself to buying just one sunscreen for the whole family. Our skin care advisor knows exactly which products you need to achieve a radiant and healthy tan. Pay attention to everything she has to say:
FREE PRELIMINARY FACIAL DIAGNOSIS
Did you know that one in three sunscreen buyers are swayed by the brand, and only 37% take professional recommendations into account? Our free facial analysis in Madrid is crucial for prescribing the best personalized sun protection routine. But if you don't have time to visit Beldon before packing your suitcase, try to consider all the recommendations from our skin care advisor.
Your body has an average of two square meters of skin, and every millimeter needs to be carefully protected from the devastating effects of UV radiation. But if you also want to achieve the best tan of your life (even, radiant, long-lasting, and healthy), simply using the highest SPF isn't enough. Personalizing your sun care routine is key, and there are four basic factors to consider.
PHOTOTYPE. TO EACH THEIR OWN SUN PROTECTION INDEX

Some people gradually reduce the amount of sunscreen they use as they tan, or use a higher shade for their face and then relax when applying it to their legs or abdomen. This is not a good idea.
Phototype is the skin's ability to absorb solar radiation, and this determines the response to the sun's rays and each person's ability to tan, as well as their limit of time of exposure to the sun and UV rays before burning.
There are six skin types , ranging from the fairest and most sun-sensitive to dark skin that cannot burn. In Spain, the most common are phototypes III and IV, and their ideal sun protection factor (SPF) would be between 30 and 50.
* In case you didn't know, SPF indicates how long your skin can withstand sun exposure before redness appears, and practically speaking, the higher the SPF, the more protection you get. A cream with SPF 30 absorbs more than 92% of UVB radiation, while another with the same formula but SPF 50 would absorb 97%.
SKIN TYPE, AGE, AND LIFESTYLE
Phototype determines the level of protection needed. A perfect tan for every skin type:
- Skin type (oily, combination or dry) should be taken into account when choosing texture: gels and sprays for the oiliest or combination skin.
- Lotions, milks and creams for the driest skin.
- The level of skin sensitivity and biological age should influence the choice of specific formulas.
- Free from allergens and with calming ingredients for the most sensitive skin, or with anti-aging, firming or anti-blemish actives for mature skin.
Lifestyle—and what you do at the beach—should also influence your choice. If you practice outdoor or water sports, using waterproof formulas is essential. Our skin care advisor also emphasizes the importance of using a specific sunscreen for the face and another for the body .

TIPS FOR A BEAUTIFUL TAN
Once you've chosen the type of sunscreen that best suits your skin type and circumstances, you need to know how to use it to achieve a tan that's both beautiful and safe . Did you know that only two out of every 100 people follow the basic steps that guarantee the effectiveness of sunscreen?
Our skin care advisor gives us a basic lesson on how to use it to achieve a perfect tan for every skin type:
- If it's been open since last summer, throw it away . Once opened, their shelf life is very short, exactly as indicated on the packaging. As for storing unopened ones from one year to the next, as long as it's kept in a dry place, away from light and at a constant temperature, there's no problem.
- The right dose. No less than 2 ml of product per square centimeter of skin, which in everyday terms would be nine teaspoons. You're doing something wrong; you've been using the same product for over a week.
- Apply it before you get to the beach . Unless it's a physical sunscreen, you should wait for it to absorb into your skin and provide protection. Don't jump straight into the water; try to apply it just before leaving home.
- It needs to be reapplied . Every two or three hours at most, and every time you shower once you're completely dry.
- No more than two hours a day . That's the limit you should spend in direct sunlight each day. And be careful, water reflects and increases solar radiation; sand increases the radiation that hits it by 30%, and even wet grass is a great reflector, returning 20% of the radiation to your skin. You're not safe underwater either. Even diving one meter below the surface, you still receive 100% of the radiation.
- Avoid the midday hours . And not just to avoid crowds. Between noon and 4 p.m., it's best to stay safely under an umbrella. The sun is at its strongest and most intense.
- After-sun lotion is a must . Don't settle for a regular moisturizer. What your skin needs after a day in the sun is a cocktail of soothing, repairing, and nourishing ingredients. What's more, after-sun lotion is the product that makes the difference between a 'normal' tan and a radiant, even, and long-lasting one.
